    What is ‘Advanced Driver Assistance System’-ADAS? | Why it’s bliss?

    ADAS– Don’t confuse yourself with this newly rising term. It has been around us since the 1950s. Yes, you read it right, it’s not new. Recently automobile manufacturers are playing with this term as new terms tend to attract more attention and most of us are not aware of it.

    Q. What is ADAS?

    Ans. It actually refers to the advanced electronic features made available in automobiles that assist the driver in many ways which make the drive more convenient, comfortable, and safe.

    In your vehicle, either it is a car, a bike, a scooter, or any other vehicle, each and every electronic feature that eases your driving experience and assists you for any part of the drive, be it Navigation, Parking, Stability, Braking, etc., is a part of ADAS.

    Q. How is it ‘NOT NEW’?

    Ans. ADAS is not new as most of you might have heard of the following terms. If you know any of these already, then it is not new to you.

    1. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System)

    ABS is a braking feature that prevents the wheels from locking up during sudden braking by releasing and holding the brakes many times within a fraction of seconds until the vehicle comes to a halt, allowing much-surefooted braking than non- ABS ones.

    2. ESP (Electronic Stability Program)/ ESC (Electronic Stability Control)

    ESP is an electronic safety feature that helps vehicles steer better and prevent them from losing traction while steering aggressively, mostly in case of a sudden obstacle and similar cases in which the driver panics and/or loses control over the car.

    3. Cruise Control (do NOT confuse with Adaptive Cruise Control)

    Cruise Control is an electronic system that allows us to maintain a constant speed of our vehicle without pressing the accelerator, mostly just from the convenience of our steering wheel.

    4. Automatic Parking/ Park Assist

    It is an electronic system that assists you in parking your car on its own, you don’t have to accelerate or brake. You just need to activate auto-parking/ park-assist, then sit back and relax and your car will be parked. It is a very helpful feature for those who don’t have an idea of maneuvering in the parking space.

    5. Navigation

    It is a feature that helps us to navigate through our ways in our journeys. It also assists us by showings the real-time traffic status, route status, and even the location of the vehicle. The most famous Navigation system is Google Maps.

    6. Lane Assistance/ Lane Keep Assist

    It is an electronic feature that helps us maintain a specific lane on the road without manual maneuvering. When activated, this feature uses lane markings on the road to define its lane and then automatically maneuvers the vehicle without your effort whenever the vehicle tends to leave the lane.

    7. Automatic Emergency Braking

    It is an electronic safety feature in which sensors play a crucial role. It assists the driver during an emergency situation when the driver falls asleep or for any reason not applies the brake even when some obstacle comes in the way. In this situation, the vehicle automatically applies brakes.
